UTOPIA: space

  • Freeway Park 700 Seneca Street Seattle, WA, 98101 United States (map)

UTOPIA: space is a durational, site-responsive performance set in Freeway Park, celebrating the work of Angela Donadjieva, the immigrant woman who designed Freeway Park’s landscapes. Featuring dance by Vladimir Kremenović and CommonForm, installation design by VIA Architecture, and offerings by scholastic and artistic contributors, the project brings us together to steward our communal reemergence from isolation and rediscovery of public life.

UTOPIA: space activates Freeway Park by transforming it into an evolving art-making hub, with three months of open rehearsals, visual installations, and conversations. Beginning in July, the team will engage the public through an interdisciplinary exploration of movement, space, and design, offering free opportunities for communities to interact with a creative process.

The project will culminate on August 21 + 22 with two evening performances by nine dancers and an interactive visual installation.

Underwritten by John Robinson. Presented by Seattle Design Festival, Freeway Park Association, with support from Velocity Dance Center and 4Culture.
